Assessing the damage in Kaikoura following the quake in November.

Harcourts Marlborough are proud to have been awarded a certificate of excellence for their efforts following the Kaikoura Earthquake.

The Harcourts Foundation Outstanding Contribution Award was presented to the team at the Harcourts New Zealand National Awards last week.

Harcourts Marlborough and Kaikoura business co-owner Mark Davis, and Harcourts Kaikoura co-owner Janice Dreaver were thrilled to receive the award.

“The award was an unexpected surprise, and recognised all the hard work of our teams, who jumped into action to help the families of the East Coast after the earthquake,” Mark says.

On top of delivering supplies to Kaikoura in the days immediately following the earthquake in November, Harcourts Marlborough and Kaikoura were able to supply the students of the East Coast with enough stationery for the year, with the help of the Harcourts Foundation, and Paper Plus.

Kaikoura Suburban School teacher Rebecca Macer, who spoke at the awards dinner, says the donation reached 80 per cent of the community.

“This donation was massive and touched so many people. The honour I had to be able to share the news with families that they were not going to have the stress and financial strain of purchasing their child’s stationery for the whole year was just exceptional,” she says.

“Families who were already suffering immensely were able to put their focus and money on other things.”

More than $62,000 worth of stationery was purchased from Kaikoura businesses by the Harcourts Foundation, which was then distributed to eight schools across Marlborough and Kaikoura.

Staff members from Harcourts Kaikoura and Harcourts Marlborough delivered the stationery packs to schools in Seddon, Ward, and Kaikoura.

FullSizeRenderRebecca personally thanked Harcourts Marlborough and Kaikoura, and the Harcourts Foundation in her speech.

“I hope you all realise that the Harcourts Foundation have made a massive impact with the huge financial contribution … your moment of truth was truly outstanding,” she said.

Harcourts Marlborough continues to support the Harcourts Foundation with their community projects through their Community Referral Network.

By taking advantage of the network when listing your home with Harcourts Marlborough, they’ll donate $400 from the sale of your home to your chosen community group, as well as $100 to the Harcourts Foundation. Contact the team today for more information.
